“Be it known to all who enter here that Jesus Christ is the reason for our schools to exist. He is the ever-present teacher, the model of the faculties, and the inspiration of its students.”
— To Teach As Jesus Did, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
Service Hour Requirements
Service to the community is an integral part of Catholic Education. It is following Jesus’ mandate to reach out and help the less fortunate. Service hours do not mean only “not getting paid.” Service hours help the community through free service that directly benefits the marginalized. Work must be done through community service organizations that are recognized non-profit institutions.
Service hours are to be fulfilled at organizations listed on the “approved” list. This list is given out the first week of school and posted on the Campus Ministry page on Edline. You can also find a list of sites by clicking on this "approved" list link.
Any exceptions to the “approved list” are to be pre-approved by campus minister in writing. A copy of the pre-approval form will be placed in the student’s folder.
Service hours will not be accepted unless they are on the approved list or have been pre-approved.
Requirements:
| Class of 2012 (Seniors) - |
75 hours completed by April 12, 2012 |
| Class of 2013 (Juniors) - |

| 75 hours by April 2014 |
|
| Class of 2016 (8th graders) - | 25 hours by April 12, 2012 |
Hours completed in 8th grade do not count towards the requirement for high school service hours.
All summer service hours must be submitted to the campus ministry office by September 7, 2011. They will not be accepted after this date.
Verification of hours must be turned in on the letterhead of the agency at which the student volunteered. It needs to be signed by the supervising adult and include the phone number of the supervisor.
It should also include the following:
• First and last name of student
• Grade of student
• Type of service the student rendered
• Dates of the service
• Total amount of hours completed
• This can take the form of a sign-in sheet if the organization has one.
Any student not completing the required service hours by April 12, 2012 will be assessed a $10.00 late fee. Additionally, weekly detentions will be given until all service hours are completed. Students will not be allowed to take any final exams until their required service hours are completed.
If a student completes more than the required 25 hours of service in a given year, the extra hours do count towards their final total. Hours completed in eighth grade do not roll over to the following year.
Students will be notified in homeroom several times throughout the school year about how many hours they have on file. Students may find out about their total number of service hours at any time by emailing Mrs. Matelski.
