Environmental Science - Marsh Lands Lesson
Students in Mr. Ray Boudreaux’s environmental science class gained some firsthand insights on life in the Louisiana wetlands from Mr. Ripp Blank of Lafitte. The guest speaker spoke to science students as part of a series of lessons on Louisiana wetlands. Mr. Blank explained how he and his family made a living from trapping nutria and muskrat in the vast marshland south of Marrero. He said that he and his family tended hundreds of traps and sold fur from the captured animals at auction. Students were later treated to a luncheon of south Louisiana specialties, such as pasta with deer meat sauce, thanks to Mr. Boudreaux’s father and grandfather, Mr. Raymond Boudreaux Sr. and Mr. Ronald “Boo” Boudreaux.
