AOL Track Team Qualifies for State
The track team placed in four events at the regional track meet which will qualify these girls for the 5A State Meet in Baton Rouge. Jennifer Kenyon took first place in the 100 meter hurdles and third in the triple jump; Kelsey Briner placed third in the pole vault; and the 400 meter relay team of Jennifer Kenyon, Ashely Giambelluca, Jade Lee, and Kaitlyn Carriere, placed third. The relay team also set a school record.
The track team also showed hustle and spirit as it finished as runners up at the district track meet on April 23rd. Jennifer Kenyon took first place in the triple jump, the 100 meter hurdles, and the 300 meter hurdles, and this outstanding performance earned her the meet’s Outstanding Player award. Also, Britney Toups was another Penguin who took a title as she won the district championship in the 100 meter run. Other Penguins who placed included the team of Alex Green, Jade Singleton, Kelsey Briner, and Britney Toups , which placed second in the 400 meter relay; the team of Alex Green, Ashely Giambelluca, Jade Lee, and Kaitlyn Carriere, which placed 2nd in the 1600 meter relay; Taylor King, who placed second in the long jump; Y-Nhi Vi, who placed second in the discus; and Kelsey Briner, who placed second in both the pole vault and the long jump.
