Academy of Our Lady’s annual Mission Box Auction was held on Thursday, February 16, 2012. The lively, school-wide assembly featured Assistant Principal, Ms. Teri Verret as the auctioneer and nineteen lunchboxes of delicious food for the lucky winners. Bidders, groups of six to eight friends, competed for lunch boxes donated by school clubs and organizations. In addition to the lunch boxes individual raffle tickets were drawn to single bag lunch winners.
“The Mission Box Auction is a way for the students to enjoy a special lunch while raising money for a good cause,” said Theresa Matelski, Campus Minister and Mission Club Coordinator, “the students put up big bucks to have an alternative to cafeteria food.”
The auction raised over $2,200.00 in a little less than one hour. The monies will be donated to Café Hope. The boxes with the top five highest bids included: Key Club’s Raising Canes box, National English Honor Society’s Raising Canes box, Café Hope’s mystery box, the Advancement Office’s Marco’s Pizza box, and Spanish Honor Society’s Wing Zone box.
The Mission Club would like to thank all the clubs and departments that donated lunch boxes, the groups who supported the auction by bidding, and the students who supported the Mission Club by purchasing raffle tickets.
